If you have ever felt degraded on LinkedIn, probably it’s because you have made one mistake, unconsciously feeding the algorithm with wrong message.

I’m software engineer and I’m getting dozens of messages on LinkedIn each week (no bragging, this is how it is in the IT… for now). And there’s nothing wrong about it, this is very soothing for the ego. It can lift you up, during crisis in your current job. So I’ve had always one rule:

You must reply, always!

When it comes to professional networking online, LinkedIn is the best way to do it, no doubts. Having said that (and since I’m not the best networker in person), I’ve always replied to the message or invitation — but looks like I was in minority. If you are a sourcer, you probably know how low response rate can be. 5–10%? That’s why, a while ago the new feature came: one click response.

With almost like a swipe, you could say to the Recruiter if it’s a match, or not. Simple, right? Did it work from HR dept. perspective? Let me know.

Did it work for devs? Yes and no, and here’s the problem.
